Elephants

Today, I wait, I listen

I sit with my anxiety
and I wait and listen
I sit with my elephant

and I wait and listen
it tells me of its worries:
it feels so big, so slow
people are always telling it to hurry up

there doesn’t seem to be enough room for it
it’s scared it might hurt someone by accident
it feels out of place, different than the rest

(it’s ears slowly flap back and forth as it reflects, looking up)
it feels isolated, even though it is so big

it wakes up daily feeling grey.
I listen, give it a friendly pat.
